The End of this Political Weather

It has been a long while since I sat down to write about the political weather in this country. Why? Well I found myself so down and depressed by what I am seeing for one. For two, before I could think through an injustice and collect my thoughts to write down, another injustice would surface.

This president—and I have never considered him president…more like a substitute (you know like the substitute teachers you had in high school who came in place of your regular teacher and just sat there or worse tried to teach a subject they knew nothing about?)—has been a complete embarrassment to the United States both home and abroad. He is dangerous. He has no idea how government works. He does the business of our president like he did his businesses over the years, by bullying, deceit, lies, deception, corruption, and unlawful acts.

He has disgraced us abroad. He has caused the working class to slip further in the economic hole. His tax give-a-way to the wealthy has not proved positive for the US economy. His tariff wars with other countries have proved ineffective and very costly for Americans. His abandoning of Ukraine is unforgivable. Those pictures of young fighters captured and executed because of his ill advised decisions will haunt me forever, just as the pictures of those young children taken from their parents.

This is not how Americans act. This is not how we want our country to be portrayed to the world. Do we want to be this country he is creating; where honesty is out the window, where lies and deceit are the new norm, where people are judged by where they came from or the color of their skin or their net worth? Do we want a country where every day brings a new set of tweets that dictate our lives? Do we want contrived chaos every day?

There is no getting away from his illogical thinking. I am sure that each of you can think of a person you have met or known that just seems to have confusion follow them. They do things that make you question their thinking. You find yourself confused and befuddled as to how you are to respond to them. They leave you uncomfortable, unsure, mixed up, insecure. That is the state we find ourselves in. Even his supporters have these feelings. They must know of his incompetence, dishonesty, and wrong doings, they just don’t care. They are willing to drink the Kool-Aid.

We live in a very scary time. Our country’s democracy is being dismantled day-by-day, lie-by-lie, misdeed-by-misdeed. He cares little for the law and shows his disdain for it daily. He cares little for the people he purports to represent. He is so focused on himself that he fails to see the destruction he is causing. People are dying daily because of him and neither he, nor his supporters care. These are dangerous precedents.

We now have a chance to rid the country of this cancer. Unfortunately the founding fathers could not see the day when so many leaders would follow a rogue leader and disregard their constitutional duties. Right now, McConnell and Graham are casting their impeachment vote before they hear the evidence as impartial jurors. And they are doing it publicly, no shame, and no remorse; just in your face I’ll do what I want because I have the power.

We, as a nation, are faced with losing our democracy. We must come together as a country a put an end to this dictator want-to-be.
